Alarm before smoke hits the ceiling

Machining WorkshopMANUFACTURING · SIX WORKSHOPS · 24/7 MONITORING
PROBLEM

The first sign of a fire was usually the ceiling smoke detector going off, but smoke can take minutes to climb that far. On a workshop floor where oil, metal swarf and sparks sit together, those lost minutes were the most critical and most expensive of the whole event.

APPROACH

The existing workshop cameras were connected to a vision model that recognises flame and smoke. The system detects any ignition within seconds, sends the shift supervisor an alarm carrying the location and a live camera feed, and triggers the sirens on the floor at the same moment.

RESULTS
Time from the first flame to the alarm dropped below ten seconds.
Six workshops are monitored live, with the ceiling detectors kept as a second layer.
The alarm reaches the shift supervisor with location and live video while the sirens fire.
